"Twist and Shout" Not
It isn't everyday that one meets a couple
who are dedicated and fully committed to
the health and welfare of the community
they serve, especially using Holistic Health
as the driving force behind their work.
However, I found that the interview I
recently had, on a fine spring day, with Dr.
Leo Meltvedt D.C. and his lovely wife
Angela, proved just that.
In their recently refurbished offices at
4714 Marlborough just north of Adams
adjacent to Starbucks, I discussed the
underlying premise upon which Chiropractic
health care is based. Much to my
surprise it's not as I had surmised -- simply
the readjustment of stiff necks or tortured
lower backs. "It's all in the power of
observation" Dr. Leo patiently explained.
It seems Chiropractic Health Care is more
about careful observation of the individual
to assess possible neurological, skeletal and
or muscular deficiencies which can drive
the body into disorder. Treatment can
include stimulation of any of the bodily
senses to affect that portion of the brain
which manages the problem area of the
body. Adjustments are then made which
put the body's sensors, nervous system and
neurological system back into balance.
Hence a holistic approach to health and
welfare is provided, rather than treatments
relying solely on pharmaceuticals.
Dr. Leo, a previous back pain sufferer himself,
chose Chiropractic care as the path
that would lead him to do what he does
best--help his fellow man. Additionally, as
a fully qualified Doctor of Chiropractic,
Dr. Leo is also Board Eligible and will
soon be fully Board Certified as a Chiropractic
Neurologist in January of 2006.
"The family practice was established in
2000 and we take all major insurances and
also affords those who need help without
insurance, a sliding cash payment scale,"
noted Angela. She went on to say "the
patient comes first, each is a unique individual
and thus their care plan is specific
to their individual needs." Dr. Leo specializes
in the treatment and pain of
the neck, back, shoulder, arm, leg, foot, as
well as migraine pain and carpal tunnel
syndrome. His additional education also
provides success in the treatment of dizziness,
fatigue, nervousness, fear of falling,
vertigo and other neurological problems.
I was also struck by the numerous signed
patient testimonials, all were without
exception, glowing tributes to the welfare
reached under Dr. Leo's tutelage and
healing hands. Given these reviews and the
compelling presence of these two dedicated
individuals, I decided then and there
I would recommend my wife make an
appointment with Dr. Leo, in order for
her to seek relief for her stress induced
maladies, which she has done.
I went from a skeptic to a believer in the
benefits of holistic health, perhaps you will
too after a visit to Kensington Chiropractic.
After all, you have nothing to lose
but your pain.
For the Adams Avenue Herald, Mick.
